ElderVault
Privacy Policy
Effective October 12, 2026
ElderVault is built so that Mighty Yak Labs LLC does not receive, or run a server holding, the care information you keep about your family. What you enter is kept on your devices and in your own private iCloud account, and you decide which parts to share and with whom.
The short version
- Your relatives' details, contacts, medications, accounts, appointments, documents and tasks are not sent to Mighty Yak Labs.
- Sync and sharing use Apple's iCloud and CloudKit services under your Apple account.
- The details you type about your family are encrypted on your device before they are stored in iCloud, with the few exceptions described below.
- You share one section of a profile at a time. Someone you invite sees only the sections you shared with them.
- ElderVault contains no advertising or analytics code.
- We do not sell personal information.
Information handled by the app
Care information
You may enter information about a parent or other relative: their name and emergency details, the people involved in their care, medications and doses, financial accounts and website sign-ins, appointments, tasks, documents, and photos or scans attached to any of these. This information is stored on your device and, while you are signed in to iCloud on that device, in your private iCloud account, so it can appear on your other devices.
ElderVault also keeps "your name", which the people you share with see when you take on a task. With iCloud on, it is kept in your iCloud account so each of your devices has it. It is not shared beyond that.
Encryption
Every field you type in a profile, including names, notes, account numbers and sign-ins, is stored in iCloud using CloudKit's encrypted fields, which are encrypted on your device before they are uploaded. Files and photos you attach are encrypted by iCloud as well. Mighty Yak Labs has no access to your iCloud account and cannot read any of it. For the strongest protection Apple offers, turn on Advanced Data Protection in your iCloud settings.
Some information is not encrypted this way, because iCloud needs it to work: dates and times, choices you pick from a list, the type and size of an attached file, and the title of a sharing invitation. That title includes your relative's name and the section's name, so the person you invite knows what they are accepting.
On your iPhone or iPad, ElderVault's local copy is protected by iOS file protection whenever the device is locked. On a Mac, it has the protection macOS gives the app's files, and FileVault's while the Mac is shut down. Your device backups may include the local copy, under your backup settings.
Photos and scans
When you attach a photo, ElderVault saves a new copy of the image without the information a camera writes into the file, including where the photo was taken. Photos are reduced to 2560 pixels on the long edge unless you choose to keep the full size.
Sharing
Each profile has separate sections. Each section you share is its own invitation, sent through Apple's sharing sheet, and for each one you choose whether people can make changes or only view. Someone you invite can see everything in the sections you shared with them, including attached files and photos, and anyone who can make changes can add, change or delete things there.
If you stop sharing a section, it is removed from the other person's devices the next time they sync. Anything they have already exported, printed, copied or photographed stays with them.
When information leaves ElderVault
ElderVault's protection covers information while it is inside the app. Some features, all of them your choice, place a copy elsewhere:
- Export. Anyone who holds a section, including someone who can only view it, can export it as a PDF. By default the PDF needs a password you choose each time, which ElderVault does not keep. You can turn the password off in Settings. Account and routing numbers show only their last four digits, and sign-ins and photos of accounts are left out, unless you turn on the option to include them, which needs the password. Once saved or shared, the PDF is outside ElderVault: ElderVault cannot lock it, take it back or delete it.
- Calendars. If you ask, ElderVault adds appointments to calendars you choose. An event shows whose appointment it is, the title, time and place, never the notes. Your calendars may be synced to other services and shown on your Lock Screen. ElderVault asks for full calendar access because keeping an event up to date means finding it again; it looks only in the calendars you chose, for events it added.
- Reminders. Reminders are scheduled on each device and sent nowhere. By default a reminder names no one and nothing, because it appears on the Lock Screen and on a paired Apple Watch. A setting on each device adds your relative's name and the item's title.
- Copying text. Text in a PDF stored in ElderVault can be selected and copied. Once copied, it can be pasted into any other app.
Apple services
ElderVault relies on Apple services for iCloud storage, syncing and sharing, Face ID, Touch ID and passcode unlocking, App Store downloads, and the purchase that unlocks sharing. Apple processes information for those services under its own terms and privacy policy. Apple handles payment; Mighty Yak Labs receives Apple's sales reports, which do not identify you, and does not receive your payment-card information.
Support and diagnostics
Settings in ElderVault includes a Diagnostics screen. If you choose to send us its report, you share it yourself, as a file or as copied text. It contains the app's version, counts, record identifiers, iCloud sync status, recent sync activity, which sharing purchase is in effect, and when an annual period ends. It does not contain names, contacts, medications, accounts, documents or anything else you typed. Nothing is sent unless you send it, and you can read it first.
Permissions
ElderVault may ask for access to the camera, to photograph labels and scan documents; the photo library, to attach photos; Face ID or Touch ID, for the app lock; your calendars, to keep appointments there; and notifications, for reminders. Each is used only for the feature you choose, and you can change any of them in your device's Settings.
Website data
This website does not use cookies, advertising or analytics. Like most websites, its hosting provider may process limited technical request information, such as IP address, browser type and request time, to deliver and protect the site.
Retention and deletion
You control what is in ElderVault. Deleting an item deletes its attached files, and the deletion syncs to your other devices and to anyone the section is shared with. Deleting a profile removes it from your devices and from the devices of everyone you shared it with. Removing the app deletes its copy on that device; information stored in iCloud remains subject to your iCloud settings and Apple's retention practices. Copies made outside ElderVault, such as exported PDFs and calendar events, are not deleted by ElderVault.
Children's privacy
ElderVault is designed for adults caring for a relative, not for use by children. Mighty Yak Labs does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Not medical, legal or financial advice
ElderVault helps families organize care information. It is not a healthcare provider and does not give medical, legal or financial advice.
